What is wedding breakfast
The wedding breakfast is not a morning meal as the name implies; but is the dinner that is held after the wedding. It is the first meal that the bride and groom have together after their marriage.
The wedding breakfast is held where the bride’s and groom’s family dine together after the couple is married and therefore has special significance for the families and the newly married couple. The wedding breakfast has to be carefully planned and the seating of the guests is of great importance.
It’s supposed to be a joyous occasion and can last for several hours. That’s why it’s a memorable occasion and is fondly remembered. Newly wed couples have the wedding ceremony and the breakfast festivities photographed and keep the pictures in their wedding album.
What kind of wedding breakfast will you have?
There are so many things to consider such as dietary requirements of guests, kids menus, time of year you will be serving, of course, your budget!
If you are having a themed style wedding such as one on the beach then keep your foods within the theme. Here serving lobster or crab would be appropriate. A traditional wedding might be best accompanied with a dinner of roast beef and potatoes. You can still turn these best foods for weddings into a buffet style menu.
Hot buffet : This usually consists of meat joints, hot plates of rice, potatoes, vegetables, salad bowls, French bread, pates and mixed desserts. This is a good all round option as guests can choose exactly what they want, including children. The only downside is that not all guests can eat at the same time and due to the need for choice, there is often wastage.
Roast : The simple roast is still an ever popular choice generally suited to those marrying at stately homes, hotels, golf clubs etc. Although it is nothing fancy, it always leaves guests feeling nourished, satisfied and is generally well liked by most.
Barbeques : are great for an informal reception and if you are guaranteed the weather. Have a buffet table filled with salads and breads and then have the men in your party to take turns manning the barbeque. Steaks, burgers, vegetarian kebabs, shrimps and fish are always popular. You know what your guests like. Make sure you have all the sauces and a big bucket with ice for the beers and wine.
If you are planning to do the wedding food yourself, you would also need to know about the facilities at the wedding facility.
At the time you are planning food for your wedding reception consider any special dietary needs you know of among your guests; be sure to provide a vegetarian option. Most caterers are prepared to serve some special dishes to comply with these needs.
By all means get a per head quote based on several menu options; you will then know upfront what the final cost will be so you can make the best decision.
These ideas will help your guests enjoy your wedding but do remember that they didn’t come for the food, but to share in celebrating the two of you joining together to start a new and exciting life.
