What to Wear to Your Reception

What to Wear to Your Reception

If you’re planning to switch outfits after your wedding – perhaps you plan on putting in some work on that dance floor – then we have a few ideas for how to come up with an after-party dress that wows just as much as your bridal gown. Reception outfits run a wide gamut: you might want to choose a similar colour scheme to your wedding dress or you might want something totally different.

A metallic dress is on-trend

A metallic dress in a nude shade might make an interesting change from your bridal gown (assuming you’re going for the traditional white associated with a Christian wedding). There are plenty of retailers on the high street where you might be able to find something. The cut should be relatively freeing – think of slipping into your sparkly dance floor number after a whole day in your heavy wedding dress and it should instantly perk up your spirits and make you feel ready to go another couple of hours.

Jewellery should stand out

You can go with trendier gems for a wedding reception. While your ceremonial dress might require you to be understated, you can look at larger pieces by contemporary designers to give your look a memorable twist. Try one of the stunning ruby and rhodium-plated pieces by designer Jayce Wong to give a silver or gunmetal dress an amazing accompaniment. The octahedron earrings are our personal favourite. Unusual but well made enough to last a lifetime.

Go for ‘nude’ shoes

‘Nude’ shoes are going to be a big trend this summer. You can pair them with any colour of outfit. Take the ‘nude’ concept even further and pick up a pair of stilettos with minimal straps – a very cool look that will balance out even the most elaborate of party outfits. Choose a heel height that is tall enough to complement your look but not too high that you can’t bust a move on the dance floor.

We recommend giving as much thought and planning to your reception outfit as your dress for the big day. The aim is to create a nighttime look that’s both more comfortable and more glamorous than your fairytale ceremony attire. Take your time seeking out top jewellery designers and accessories. Tell us what your reception outfit inspirations are (whether they be celebrity pics or other inspirations like colour and texture) and feel free to ask for suggestions. We love nothing more than a good outfit brainstorm!
